Lotus du Levant
Designer Company based in Istanbul
Lotus du Levant is established by three partners, two art historians and a designer.

The creators of this brand are infatuated with kutnu, a handwoven authentic fabric produced in eastern Turkey, Gaziantep. Kutnu was known as the palace fabric in Ottoman times and was presented to valuable guests. Kutnu is made up of %50 silk and %50 cotton, combining the refinement and the luscious glow of silk with the "quotidian" ness and practicality of cotton, creating a unique texture; suitable for both special occasions and everyday use. This organic fabric is hand dyed with glowing, vibrant and rich colors.

Another signature material of Lotus du Levant designs is the needle lace. Needle laces are usually produced by Anatolian women and they are intricate, delicate handwoven laces that bring an immediate sophistication and elegance to wherever they are attached. As you can see in the video, weaving a lace with needle is really hard and time consuming. Groups of women work for days to produce substantial amounts.

Both kutnu fabric and needle laces are traditional artisanal handcrafts of Anatolia, reflecting its multi layered culture and vibrant colors and Lotus du Levant likes to use symbols, signs, myths and stories of this rich heritage out of which these handcrafts and fabrics stem.
